Family Communication Mediation Services

Text Message and Email Editing for Effective Communication

ProperComm®, family mediation services, edits e-mail and text messages between parents who are unable to communicate effectively.

ProperComm® eliminates the hostility, vulgarity, and abusive e-mails or text messages which allows the parents to focus on what’s important . . . the children.

How ProperComm® works:

ProperComm® is specifically designed to be a “procedure for communicating” by a parent or for parents who are in high conflict or have difficulty communicating in an appropriate manner. ProperComm® was developed to promote constructive communication between parents by having an “auditor” review and revise, if necessary, email communications between parents. ProperComm® does not edit punctuation, grammar, or formatting; it edits email communications to delete words and phrases expressed in hostile ways and that are not necessary for conveying appropriate points in the email. ProperComm® edits The email communications.

By intercepting and editing hostile emails with aggressive and inappropriate language before they are received by the other parent, ProperComm® seeks to reduce the number of litigants seeking court hearings to stop harassing emails and/or abusive text messages. In addition, by reducing the volume of aggressive emails/text messages between parents, ProperComm® also may reduce the number of exhibits which might otherwise be used at court hearings.

Judges are often overwhelmed at hearings and trials with requests to review emails messages that have been exchanged between parties, when allegations are made regarding inappropriate name-calling, using inflammatory language, etc. Judges sometimes order litigants to communicate with each other through their attorneys or through a Parenting Coordinator.

However, not all litigants have attorneys and courts often must resolve disputes between litigants representing themselves, i.e. pro se or pro per litigants. ProperComm® provides Judges an alternative to constantly being called upon to resolve disputes between litigants who want the Court to hear their complaints about inappropriate communications by the other parent. ProperComm® eliminates inappropriate communication between litigants and teaches them the skills necessary to stop making inflammatory comments, adding unnecessary, distracting comments and arguments in their email/text exchanges.
